Israeli Foundation for Legal Aid
to Refugees, Asylum Seekers and the Stateless.

Approximately 2,500 asylum seekers are incarcerated by Israel’s Ministry of Interior in blithe disregard for their legal rights to life, liberty, and human dignity. The State of Israel does not provide a lawyer to represent them nor any other supervision by the judicial system, thus, basic rights to legal representation and due process are violated.

Our operation is funded entirely by contributions of individuals and charitable foundations. We would very much like to add you to our list of contributors, and in that context would be pleased to provide you additional information and arrange for you to meet with the lawyers who spearhead our operation.

O

ur limited resources enable us to undertake only the most severe cases - just over 50 asylum seekers in the past year. Aasylum seekers are held  under administrative detention, without time limit, as no dates are set for either trial or release.

Most refugees have been held in prison for years, without ever being brought to trial. This includes women and children, victims of torture, human trafficking and severe sexual crime victims – as further detailed HereHere, and Here [Hebrew].

"Anu Plitim" (We Are Refugees")  has submitted over tens of petitions, of which 85% were granted, releasing  the petitioners from prison. We have established several legal precedents that assist the general population of asylum seekers in Israel.

Anu Plitim believes it is important to emphasize not just the importance of upholding the rule of law, whether International or Israeli Law, but also to recall our own people’s history – as we were also, not too long ago, refugees.
