ur limited resources enable us to undertake only the most severe cases - just over 50 asylum seekers in the past year. Aasylum seekers are held under administrative detention, without time limit, as no dates are set for either trial or release.
Most refugees have been held in prison for years, without ever being brought to trial. This includes women and children, victims of torture, human trafficking and severe sexual crime victims – as further detailed Here, Here, and Here [Hebrew].
"Anu Plitim" (We Are Refugees") has submitted over tens of petitions, of which 85% were granted, releasing the petitioners from prison. We have established several legal precedents that assist the general population of asylum seekers in Israel.
Anu Plitim believes it is important to emphasize not just the importance of upholding the rule of law, whether International or Israeli Law, but also to recall our own people’s history – as we were also, not too long ago, refugees.
